This airport was built to handle the increasing local and international air transport requirements for Riyadh. The airport that KKIA replaced, Riyadh Airport (close to the city center), currently is a Royal Saudi Air Force airbase. The passengers handled by Riyadh King Khalid International Airport is increasing every year. In 2015, 22,3 million passengers used the airport and there were over 160,000 flight operations. In 2014, the airport handled more than 20 million passengers.

The project's scope of work consists of a stadium located at Doha Sports Complex, Doha, Qatar. The sweeping arc and undulating roof of Khalifa International Stadium are visible from afar, providing a striking introduction to the Aspire Zone. The Khalifa International Stadium is also known as the National Stadium. It is a multi-purpose stadium, having hosted athletics events and the 2006 Asian Games. However, its main purpose is as a football venue and is currently home to the Qatar national team. The stadium is expanding its spectators capacity which will be increased for the World Cup from the current 40,000 to hold 68,030 fans in it.
